Francis BOAG
Francis Boag: Scottish contemporary art, artist and paintings Francis Boag was born in Scotland in 1948. Boag studied contemporary art and painting at Duncan of Jordanstone College of Art . The influence on Boag of his art tutors Alberto Morrocco and David McLure can be seen in the use of vibrant colour and sensuous application of paint in his contemporary paintings. As a young artist Francis Boag exhibited at many Scottish modern art galleries. But like many artists Boag decided to progress a career teaching. In 1995 Boag started painting and exhibiting expressionist interpretations of landscapes. Demand for his vibrant, colourful contemporary paintings has grown steadily ever since. In 1999 a major commission from John Lewis plc for three large contemporary paintings for permanent display at their new flagship store in the Buchanan Galleries in Glasgow prompted Boag to take a year long sabbatical from teaching. During this time Boag studied for an MA at Gray’s School of Art in Aberdeen and being a research based course, required him to reflect deeply on his own paintings and try to see it in the wider context of current contemporary art. In 2001 Francis Boag began painting full-time. Today Boag has developed an International following for his paintings and becoming recognised as a leading artist in the new generation of Scottish colourists.
In addition to Red Rag Scottish Art Gallery Francis Boag has exhibited at other leading Scottish Art Galleries. Each painting at Red Rag is sourced from the Francis Boag artist studio and like all Red Rag Scottish art and Contemporary art it can be shipped worldwide.
