Landscape Paintings by Rosanne BARR Scottish Art and artists at Red Rag Gallery Rosanne Barr was born in 1981 in the village of Gartocharn at the south end of Loch Lomond, the lake which divides the lowlands from the highlands of Scotland. She experienced the natural beauty of the countryside from an early age, finding inspiration in the far north of Scotland at Balnakiel in Sutherland, Arisaig and Altbea, Ross and Cromarty. Rosanne was awarded Silver and Gold Medals in successive years in Glasgows Kelvingrove Art Galleries Drawing Competition and subsequently exhibited in Stirling. In 2003 she graduated with First Class Honours from Duncan of Jordanstone College of Art, Dundee. Later that year she exhibited in London at the British Design Centre and at The Mall Galleries where she was awarded a Licentiate of Distinction by the Society of Designer Craftsmen. Rosanne Barrs early art work was presented in a solo show, entitled Lands of Escape at The Royal Scottish Academy of Music & Drama. In March 2007, on a world excursion, she experienced the evocative sights of Thailand, Australia, New Zealand and Hawaii. On her return to Scotland she left employment with Perth Education Authority to concentrate full-time on an artistic career. Rosannes first major solo art exhibition in March 2008 Lands of Home and Venture was a great success and was followed by many other exhibitions in Scotland and England. Rosanne Barr was a finalist in the 2009 Jolomo Foundation Award for Scottish Landscape Painting, as well as having work was selected for the Annual Exhibitions of the Royal Glasgow Institute of The Fine Arts and Paisley Art Institute. She has successfully exhibited, at the London Art Fair, Edinburgh Art Fair and the Glasgow Art Fair. A feature article in Glasgow Heralds Artist Profile Supplement described her work as: Tightly composed and hugely atmospheric, there is a very pure sense of colour in Barrs work, which has benefited in this series with a shift into oil. Speaking about her artistic technique Rosanne says, I paint instinctively, inspired by shifting skies or a distant light or colour on the horizon. I paint with large brushes, swiftly, creating a sense of movement in each painting. I apply the paint directly onto the canvas, to keep the paint looking fresh and the colours vivid and I often build up layers to create interesting textures and depth. I aim to capture mood, emotion, movement and atmosphere in my paintings. These are not the places themselves - they are how we remember them. Travelling the remote northern coastlines of Scotland influences my painting and more recently the panoramic, rugged lands of Orkney. With Scotland as my inspiration I can never grow tired of the desire to paint. Artist Rosanne Barr is one of a growing number of artists whose modern art works feature at Red Rag Gallery in Bath.
