Jock MacInnes produces stunning seascape paintings, which have great simplicity. MacInnes paintings have a quietness about them. Unusually he prepares all his own painting grounds, a type of gesso on board. Then with great skill, MacInnes not only draws and paints on to the surface he also abrades and scrapes into the canvas. In doing so MacInnes creates a strong feeling of atmosphere and mood.
''Sunset Over Arran'' is a good example of Jock MacInnes individual painting style. Small fishing boats in the foreground echo the colours of the incredible sunset behind them. In between the sea water shimmers and glows red with the brilliance of the sunset.
