Art by Joan GILLESPIE Scottish Art and Artists at Red Rag Gallery Joan Gillespie was born in Dundee in 1954. She studied painting at Duncan of Jordanstone College of Art Dundee and completed a Diploma course at Edinburgh College of Art. Her artistic training at college benefited from studying under Alberto Morrocco and also with Sir Robin Philippson Joan had an affinity for the art works of some of the Impressionists, the Nabis, the Newlyn School, the Glasgow Boys and the Scottish Colourists. Other influences have been modern masters of Fauvism - Derain, Matisse and Cezanne. Composition, paint quality and colour distribution in painting have always been very important to her. The diversity of Joan Gillespies work is quite extraordinary. It ranges from enchanting collection of Portraits, Figurative works, Landscapes and Still Life. Her fresh-faced portraits definine the essence of feminine grace and beauty. She captures the cool, calm poses of young women through the simplicity of quick, broad brushstrokes with just a couple of lines. Joan has a bold, vibrant approach to the use of colour, both in palette choice and wild, carefree application. Despite the vibrancy of tone and texture, her art works are both evocative and quiet in their composition and execution. Since 2021 Joan Gillespie has been exclusively represented by Red Rag Gallery. Her works are in numerous collections throughout the UK and private art collections in Spain, Australia and USA. This is the Seascape art page from Red Rag Scottish Art Gallery featuring the best in contemporary Scottish art. Today is no exception you will find Red Rag Scottish Art Gallery has an extensive collection of Seascape art and paintings by leading contemporary artists. Human beings have always had an intimate relationship with the water. Given the amount of the earths surface which is covered in water and the often unpredictable and life-changing nature of the sea, it is little wonder that seascapes have been such a popular subject for so long and no surprise that seascape paintings have an important place in the history of art. Seascape paintings have a long history in both the Eastern and Western worlds. The walls of homes have been adorned with seascape paintings since the art of the secular painting first began to overtake religious works in numbers and importance. As a country with an extensive coastline, paintings of seascapes have always had a special attraction to Scottish artists. All the seascape paintings at Red Rag showcase the talent of Scottish painters and their ability to depict changing light on water and rapidly altering climatic conditions. Many of the Scottish artists who have painted these seascape paintings are also talented landscape painters, or worked in other genres as well as seascapes, such as still life or portraiture. or CALL RED RAG NOW on 01451 832563 or outside the UK +44 1451 832563.
