Art by Rory McLAUCHLAN Scottish Art and Artists at Red Rag Gallery Rory McLauchlan was born in Ayr, Scotland in 1960. Initially he studied graphics at Cardonald College, Glasgow from 1978-80. Following this Rory continued his studies at St Martins School of Art, London from 1982-85 where he gained a BA(Hons) in Fine Art. While living in London Rory McLauchlan worked as a freelance textile designer for various design companies including Kim Clark Design. Since returning to Scotland he has concentrated on painting landscapes of Scotland and France. In doing so Rory captures the essence and character of a particular place through the spontaneous use of colour, line and shape. Rory is very much a non literal painter and prefers to create pieces rather than slavishly imitating nature. McLauchlan works in a highly improvised way with colour, line and shape taking opportunites to capitalise on unpredictable accidents on the surface which will gel with other areas, and in time evolve into larger pleasing forms. During this process Rory is continually thinking on his feet which makes for a more intense working method. In addition to Red Rag Gallery Rory McLauchlin has particapated in various art exhibitions across the UK including: the RGI, PAI and VAS and numerous commercial art galleries throughout the UK. Each painting at Red Rag is sourced from the Rory McLauchlin artist studio and like all Red Rag Scottish contemporary art can be shipped worldw This is the Seascape art page from Red Rag Scottish Art Gallery featuring the best in contemporary Scottish art. Today is no exception you will find Red Rag Scottish Art Gallery has an extensive collection of Seascape art and paintings by leading contemporary artists. Human beings have always had an intimate relationship with the water. Given the amount of the earths surface which is covered in water and the often unpredictable and life-changing nature of the sea, it is little wonder that seascapes have been such a popular subject for so long and no surprise that seascape paintings have an important place in the history of art. Seascape paintings have a long history in both the Eastern and Western worlds. The walls of homes have been adorned with seascape paintings since the art of the secular painting first began to overtake religious works in numbers and importance. As a country with an extensive coastline, paintings of seascapes have always had a special attraction to Scottish artists. All the seascape paintings at Red Rag showcase the talent of Scottish painters and their ability to depict changing light on water and rapidly altering climatic conditions. Many of the Scottish artists who have painted these seascape paintings are also talented landscape painters, or worked in other genres as well as seascapes, such as still life or portraiture. or CALL RED RAG NOW on 01451 832563 or outside the UK +44 1451 832563.
