Alison McWhirter was born in Dumfries in 1975. She studied at Bath Academy where she trained as a painter graduating with a BA Fine Art and a postgraduate MFA .

Alison McWhirter took up a career in Education teaching the study of art from 2003 until 2010. She also worked part-time as a freelance photographer and writer for a publishing company in Bath.
In 2008 Alison McWhirter returned to painting and to Scotland. Since then she has concentrated her efforts in the art world as a full time artist. Alison's paintings are now regularly shown in many British and Scottish art galleries and her art works are in various art collections throughout the UK.
Alison McWhirter paintings are very much in the style and influence of the Scottish colourists. There is a strong emphasis of colour and depth in her work with enduring appeal.
In addition to Red Rag Modern Art Gallery Alison McWhirter has exhibited at other leading British and Scottish Art Galleries. Each painting at Red Rag is sourced from the Alison McWhirter artist studio and like all Red Rag British art and Contemporary art it can be shipped worldwide.
