'The Balloon and the Bird' shows Schofield playing with ideas of reality and imagination. His scenes often appear to float on the canvas, not anchored or fettered. In this case the boat appears to float unanchored through space. Our ideas of scale and perspective are challenged as we enter a world where the viewer's reality is pitched against a fairy-tale imagination.
