Peter Munro Artist CV

Peter Munro is an accomplished Scottish artist known for his distinctive paintings of wildlife, landscapes, and figurative subjects. Based in the Highlands Read more

of Scotland, he draws constant inspiration from the dramatic scenery and wildlife surrounding his studio. His deep connection to the Scottish landscape has made him a recognised figure in contemporary Scottish art and a popular choice among collectors of modern Scottish paintings.

Munro studied at the Burslem School of Art in North Staffordshire before completing an honours degree in Fine Art (Drawing and Painting) at the Chelsea School of Art. His early influences ranged from Oriental art and British Impressionism to the Glasgow Boys, Pop Art, and the work of illustrators such as Sir Frank Brangwyn, N.C. Wyeth, and Norman Rockwell. These influences continue to shape his approach, giving his paintings a blend of modern energy and traditional craftsmanship.

Although he first gained recognition for his wildlife paintings, Munro has developed a wide-ranging practice that includes landscapes, figurative works, and a celebrated series of golf-course paintings. His work has been exhibited extensively throughout the UK, Europe, and North America, including repeated selections for the prestigious Birds in Art exhibition at the Leigh Yawkey Woodson Art Museum in Wisconsin. His paintings have also appeared at Christie’s and have been commissioned by clients such as Louis Vuitton, Veuve Clicquot, Holland & Holland, and the Swarovski family.

Munro’s golf paintings have become particularly sought after. He has produced an extensive series of golfing scenes for the fine art publisher Rosenstiel’s, covering courses across Scotland, England, Ireland, and the United States. One of his notable works, The Opening Drive, was acquired by the Royal and Ancient Golf Club for display in the World Golf Museum in St Andrews and was exhibited alongside the Claret Jug at The Open.

A hallmark of Munro’s work is the contrast between natural and man-made forms — the softness of feathers against metal structures, birds interacting with industrial props, or wildlife set against unexpected backdrops. His contemporary palette and confident handling of paint give his work a modern edge while still honouring traditional Scottish artistic heritage.

Today, Peter Munro’s paintings are held in private and public collections worldwide. Red Rag Gallery is proud to represent his work, offering collectors a curated selection of original paintings sourced directly from the artist’s studio. Like all Red Rag Scottish art and contemporary British art, Peter Munro’s paintings can be shipped worldwide.
