In the ‘The Lost Glass’ the character ‘Sniffy is painted in profile on a plinth. He is there as a work of art himself and a commentator of art offering a contrast between modern and past. The painting on the wall is an adaptation of a Singer Sargent. The dog is sculptural on the plinth with the ball for play. His nose is suggestively close to the burger for a sniff, as he watches on inquisitively and takes up his place as a work of art and ever watchful. The wine glasses (fruits of his labours) on the mantlepiece are Sniffy’s tipple for the evening but there is also one lost from a previous wild night on top of the door hood. Begs the question how it got there?
