“The scene is set with traditional paintings on the walls, back left is ‘A lady with a Rose’ by American artist John Singer Sargent. The central painting is one of mine St Mark’s Square, Venice, above the fireplace is a courtyard by Singer Sargent.
In the foreground standing on a plinth is a well-behaved greyhound listening to the young lady’s command of ‘Stay’! Hence the title of the work.
In front of the dog is a cake stand of goodies tempting the dog to break the command. On top of the fireplace are the rewards for the young teacher: a burger and a glass of wine. /
